Module 6 – Using Elluminate

Objective:  To learn how to log in and view sessions on Elluminate.

INTRODUCTION

Elluminate provides live, online training as well as recorded video training modules. This is how teachers hold their weekly online class sessions and record lessons for students.

INSTRUCTION

First, if you'd like to learn more about Elluminate, read more here.  In most cases you are testing Elluminate on a school computer where we know it always works.  It is important for you to do this on your home computer because it takes a few minutes to have Elluminate provide the components you need for it to work on your home computer.  Again, any time you need help with making sure Elluminate works, this link will help you.  In order for you to get the maximum use from Elluminate sessions, having a headset with a microphone is helpful, but not required.  As long as your computer can play sound, you will be able to participate.

For the first assignment, you will view an Elluminate session (and, again, please check to see that this works on your home computer as well).  When you first click on the link below, it takes a few minutes for Elluminate to play on your computer the first time, so be patient.  If, after trying it several times and it does not work, then refer to this help page.

While you watch this presentation, learn the answers to these questions:

  • What is the green check used for?
  • What is the "to do" list used for?
  • What are two ways you can do your online work when you are not connected or online?

You will be viewing a 5 minute presentation about being organized in the online school.  Be sure and listen to the entire presentation.  Click on this presentation link to begin and click "Ok" as the program opens.

Now, complete a quiz on what you learned.  Log into your Quia account and take the "Elluminate Quiz".  (If you don't remember how do do "Quia" click here and read what you did in Module 2).  Record your score in the Moodle answer area.

For the second assignment, you should know that each teacher will have a designated time for online class meetings in the "Information Station" in Moodle.  A special link will be given out for students to access the system. Click into each of your courses in Moodle and identify the time when your teacher meets online each week.  Write down the name of the course, the teacher, and the day and time when these online meetings or office hours occur.

As you finish these lessons, you should know how to:

  • View an online class or a class recording in Elluminate
  • Find when your teacher holds online class meetings each week

ASSIGNMENTS

6.01- Has viewed a class meeting in Elluminate. Record your Quia quiz score.

6.02- Logs into weekly class meetings via Elluminate. Write down your course, teacher's name, day and time of online class meeting/office hours.
