Module 1 – Introduction/Parent/Guardian Support
Objective: To learn about the ways your parents or guardians or other caring adult can support you in successfully completing your assignments in the online school.
INTRODUCTION
You have now completed your interview and decided to enroll in the online school and we are glad that you are here! Learning online is different than learning face-to-face and we want to help you with that transition so that you’ll be successful. We have learned what it takes to be successful in the online school from other students and wanted to share these things with you.
All new students must meet the following competencies within two weeks of enrolling in order to continue in the online school. If these competencies are not completed, then the student may be dismissed from the school. Plan on spending at least one hour a day meeting this list of competencies. Once you have passed these competencies, then you will have earned the opportunity to work on your own either in our computer lab or any place that has Internet access and you can do your work.
- Be prepared to show your instructor that you are able to meet these competencies.
In addition, you will also need to be completing your regular online course work as well.
INSTRUCTION
In this series of assignments, you want to identify who you have that can support your online learning. In most cases this is your parent or a guardian. However, any caring adult can support you as well. You will need their support in helping to structure your time as well as answering questions you may have about assignments.
First, be sure you downloaded the Student Competency Checklist, Parent Verification Form and Parent Log in Info documents so you have them on your computer in addition to in print format.
For this series of lessons, you’ll want to verify that your parent/guardian or caring adult knows how to do the following:
- Parent/guardian verification of completed online training at: www.answerbay.com (See parent verification form)
- Parent/guardian has emailed with Mary Miranda, computer lab teacher (marymiranda@cos.cusd.com)
- Parent/guardian verification to sign off my “to do” list for at least two days in a row.
- Parent/guardian verification: Knows how to check completed “assignments” area online.
Once you have completed the above assignments, then you’ll log into Moodle and put the date and time when this occurred. For example, if your parent sent an email to Mary Miranda on June 5, 2011 at 8pm, then in the assignment area, you would type: June 5, 2011, 8pm.
