1.First, read the “evaluation” section of this WebQuest to learn how this assignment will be graded.
2. You may complete this WebQuest by yourself or with your partner. If you work with a
partner, everything you turn in will have both of your names on the assignment.
3. Your first task is to clearly understand the definition of character and identify the six pillars of character. To do this you will visit the following websites. Choose two pillars of character and illustrate a sports situation that provides an example of this character trait.
Six Pillars of Character - http://charactercounts.org/sixpillars.html
Do's and Dont's of Character Education - http://charactercounts.org/resources/personofcharacter.html
Character Counts - http://www.arp.sprnet.org/curric/CC!/pillindex.htm
4. Read this article about different American heroes. You will find how good character has shaped these individuals. Identify one meaningful quote from the article.
5. Now, identify who will be your nomination for the next World Sports Hero. You can use a sports figure you know or you can spend some time searching the web. Key words to use in your search could be: “hero” “sports” “legend” or some combination of these words. Remember, your World Sports Hero must be someone who exhibits the character traits you identified in #2 above. The sports hero can be anyone who has played at any level of sports in an individual or group sport and in the present or the past.
If you’re really stuck, check out this website and read some of the sports stories here:
