Clovis Online School.  Creating an iGoogle Page.

All students are expected to have an iGoogle page so they can subscribe to their teachers' blogs.

Create an iGoogle web page

A quick video about it in case you’re interested: http://www.scribd.com/doc/231808/Using-iGoogle.

1. Create a Google email account at http://gmail.google.com. (Think about what you want to name this email account, as well as your password. Now, just a word about passwords. For all of these tools, figure out a standard password you use and use the same password with everything or slightly modify it using a street number as needed). Once you’ve created your Google email account, you’re ready to create some other useful tools.

2. Create an iGoogle personalized web page at: http://google.com/ig

  • · Once your iGoogle page is created, customize the look by clicking on “change theme” in the upper right side of the iGoogle page.
  • · Then, add some gadgets by clicking on the “add stuff” link in the upper right side of the page. (See diagram below).

Add other “gadgets”. Add your gmail account. Use the “gadget search” to search for other things you may like such as “sports” or “education” or “animals” or “history”…

Add blog postings to your iGoogle page.  In Firefox, go to the blog page you want to add to your iGoogle page.  Before you go to this page, it is important to know a little about "RSS feeds."  RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication".  This allows anyone to pull in information.  The RSS icon, which you will see in your Firefox browser web address window looks like this:

All you have to do is click on this  "RSS icon" and the web address will be saved to your iGoogle page (you can't break this, so just click through until you get some blogs on your iGoogle page).  First, click here and go to the Clovis Online School blog.  Now click on the RSS orange icon in the web address window and save this to your iGoogle page.

[(If you're using Internet Explorer, follow these directions): If you're in Internet ExAs one example, let’s say you want to follow the progress of the Clovis Online School. Click on “add stuff”. Look on the left side, half way down the page, where it says “add feed.” Click on “add feed.” Paste in the Clovis Online School blog web address (http://clovisonlineschool.wordpress.com). You will now see the latest postings from this blog on your iGoogle page.]

Now, add your teachers' blogs to your iGoogle page.  You will find all of the teacher blogs listed here (on the Clovis Online School Blog).

And, now you can add in other web pages you like.
